Indigenous Ways of Knowing at Inwood School

Mr. Spence, our Divisional Land-Based co-ordinator, shared his knowledge around the importance of practicing patience. The K-4 class discussed times when patience is needed. The students used this virtue as they created baskets from woven bark pieces.

Mr. Spence spent part of an afternoon with our grade 5-12 students.  He talked about traveling on the good road where he was learning from the elders and giving back by sharing knowledge.  He encouraged our students to do the same.  Some examples that he shared included: the uses of the grey willow, sheltering under a coniferous tree, and the 7 year cycle of the rabbit population. Plans were being made to build shelter and fire outdoors and cook Bannock.
