Lakeshore
School Division Professional Development Day
Teachers
from across the division came to Fisher Branch Collegiate on Monday, September
19, 2011 to learn about the Standards Reading Assessment (SRA). Learning to
Read and Reading to Learn is an important part of Lakeshore’s Learning Vision.
All teachers are teachers of reading. Following a keynote address by
Superintendent/CEO Janet Martell, teachers worked in groups to look at student
examples from the reading assessment. By the end of the day, teachers had
created the beginnings of the document that they can use to help them with the
reading assessment. The most important outcome of the day was the fact that
teachers spent time talking to each other and thinking about strategies that
would help them teach students to be better readers!
