 ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Ashern Central School is a grade 5-12 regional school providing educational services to students from 10 communities. As of the end of September 2009, our enrollment was 299 with 86 of them in grade 5-8 and 213 in grades 9-12.
The entire staff of Ashern Central School, including teachers, office personnel, educational assistants, caretakers and bus drivers work very hard to provide the safest and cleanest learning environment we can.
Ashern Central School offers a full range of core academic courses, as well as optional courses in woodworking, home economics, business education, music, drama, French and life skills, and a power mechanics program with state of the art equipment within our facility.
Our resource and guidance programs ensure that all of our students receive the most suitable programs available and follow the proper path to graduation and their own personal career choice.
2009-2010 SCHOOL PRIORITIES
Through several meetings, ACS staff have collaborated, setting two priorities for the upcoming school year.
- The first priority is focused on literacy for all learners. Reading, writing and comprehension are essential skills in today’s society.
- The second priority focused on improving student engagement. Students need to become more involved in their own learning. We will be exploring Inquiry Based Learning as a way to help bring learning to life. ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is and will be infused throughout the curriculum so that students will become skilled in their use of technology.
