ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Alf Cuthbert School's team crest "Moosehorn Falcons, soaring with an eye to the future", is a great way to describe their small school. The warm and friendly atmosphere lends itself to the learning that is taking place.

All grades experience the shared class setting. It is a small, quiet school and the children are well behaved and cooperate with one another and the teachers on a regular basis. A prime example of this is the Student Leadership Program going on in the school.

Grades 7 & 8 students volunteer their time to this worthwhile program. It consists of sports and activities taking place in the gym and outside in the morning before classes start, and during the lunch hour. The grade 7 & 8 students, with the help of Phys. Ed. teacher, organize, oversee and help with different activities for the younger children to take part in. Depending on the season, the activity or sport will change from volleyball to floor hockey to kick baseball for the K-3 kids, or volleyball for the grade 4, 5, & 6 classes.

CAPHERD is the Canadian Association of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, whose model the Student Leadership and Quality Daily Education at Alf Cuthbert is based on. This program builds confidence in the older students as well as developing their leadership skills. The sense of respect the students have for their school and the staff is also shown through their willingness to volunteer enthusiastically with any jobs or other activities taking part within the school.

2009-2010 SCHOOL PRIORITIES
The 2009-2010 school year will maintain assessment and ICT as goals.  The positive school culture and climate is well established at Alf Cuthbert School. This positive climate and culture is considered to be “the way things are done”. It is no longer a goal rather it has become an expectation. Teaching staff will fine-tune their assessment skills. Students will use assessment terminology, and will become more involved in peer assessment activities. Criteria developed by teachers and students will enhance the assessment process and encourage exemplary student products. ICT reporting will continue to be a goal, with changes occurring to the ICT report card. Staff will continue to improve their own ICT skills. These goals are ongoing. This year, all staff will work on student engagement. Students will become more involved in everyday classroom activities and tasks. This will include Inquiry - Based Learning. Students will develop an understanding of what they are expected to learn and do and will be on task.
